Recently I’ve learn something new from my mentor and  I am very eager to pass it on to you. I want to make sure this  valuable for you so it took me about 2 hrs to write this post and should take you 10-15mins to read it so make sure your read it to the end.

In fact this will be a very good reference guide ( okay I am biased :OÞ).. so print it out and stick it to the wall next to your computer.

Let’s get back to what I would like share with you today.

The lesson is How to sell using stories

You see the formula to be successful online is

Traffic + Conversion = Sales

I used to think that driving targeted traffic to a website is the hardest thing to do. But it is simpler than you expect. More on that later..

once you have target traffic, the 2nd part of the equation is Conversion. It is our role as a marketer to convert those traffic into buyers.

How do we do that? It is through a strong sales copy that gives them a very good reasons to buy from you which results in Sales.

The key to that is telling stories,

This is not only applicable to writing sale letter it is also applicable when you writing emails to your list/audience or even if you are speaking on stage or talking to someone one to one.

Like old saying goes … “Fact tells but stories sells”

Why telling stories are a powerful way to sell?

1. People loves to hear stories.

We love stories since we are a little person … and now we are reading stories books and goes to movie or TV Series.

Nothing beats a good story that stirs your inner emotionals out.

2. Stories makes the experience a reality

When you share your experience you had with the product and service and what it had done for you … it removes the skepticism insteadly becuase people can hear from your own voice and see it from your facial expression.

Just recall when was the last time you recommend the best pizza or resturtant to someone else?

Recall how your eyes brighten up and your whole being was immersed back to the experience with your hand motioning the moment you were biting into that hot juicey pizza with the melted cheeze oozing out from the stuffed crust.

okay I’m starting to drool a little and feeling hungry …. but you know what I mean and your friends whole feel compiled to know where is that resturant and they get the address from you becuase you have stirred them up wanting to try it for themselves.

3. Stories makes it more real and easy to relate

Imagine reading a user guide vs a friend showing you how to use a piece of equipment.

Let’s face it 80% of us do not read the user guide or manual when we bought brand new TV or a car. But we found out some of the hidden functions from the sales person, friends or from an article writen by fellow users on the web.

So bottom line use Stories and related it back to the product or offer you are promoting.

The format you can adopt as a guide is

1) Tell a Story
2) Lessons from the Story
3) Present a solution for them to buy.

Here goes …

The Story….

I was in Cancun Mexico 3 weeks ago attending a mastermind event in a 5 Diamond resort Grand Velas … I was there with 15 others building our million dollar sales funnel.

It was an intensive 10 days where we work hand in hand with the technical and marketing team to put the puzzle of the funnel together. It was hard work with late nights but there are days where all goes out for an activity to let loose and enjoy

One of them that is memorable for me was the jet pack fly board. –  too bad no one took a picture of me :O( … I grab the picture below to show what it is  ;O)

 

That was a dream come true because I keep watching many youtube videos of those experts doing it. finally I get to do experience it myself!

When it was my turn, they strip me up on this board that gives off water jet
have my life jacket on … and a helmet for safety.

I have to say that it is harder than it looks.

Inside the water I had to straighten my legs and be ready for the jet to turn on which will left me up above the water.

The water jet is connected to a jet ski where there the operator will guide me what to do . He will control the water jet on my behalf as well

What’s interesting is within helmet .. he will speak through a radio to tell me what to do and instruct me how to correct my position and try again.

Balancing on that board with water jet coming out is a challenge… each time I floated up wards … I came crashing down into the water and I had never drank so much sea water in my life hahaha…

This went for about 5-10mins I think … where I go up and crash down and up and crash down …. almost look like a Dolphin swimming but very much less presentable :OÞ

time and time again he is encouraging me through the helmet radio …. tell me what to do and try again.

after that .. I managed to do it …. and was “flying” up high above the water … that feeling was amazing!!!! I felt like the king of the world as I learn to manuveour with the board. If you have chance you got to try it!!!

The Lesson from the story….

This experience reminds me that it is the same as being in business, It takes perserverance to keep trying and trying until we get better at it. Each fall I experience (very painful) and each mouthful of salt water I found myself evaluating what I did the last round and do it better the next attempt without giving up prematurely

What helped me eventually to get up is the operator on the jet ski speaking into my helmet via an intercom. He has believe that I can do it … and now what it takes to get up flying. Every fall he will let me know what to do better and encourages me to try again .. and that I can do it.

With that support … it got me to keep trying until I managed to do so

The solution ….
